The year will likely see an overall decline in gun purchases.

According to a new report by The Associated Press, the U.S. is set to fall short of the Obama administration’s goal of having at least 80 percent of its population with access to a gun.

A total of 537 million Americans are likely to be unable to acquire a gun, with the number expected to rise to 6.3 million by 2020.

The AP noted that states such as Georgia, Indiana, and Mississippi are projected to see the largest decreases in gun ownership.

A number of states are also expected to see declines in gun violence, including New York, New Jersey, Texas, Florida, California, and Illinois.

A national survey released in December showed that gun ownership in the United States has decreased slightly over the past three years.
